Many people are interested in doing this these days. So how can people positively increase their health? There are four major ways including stop smoking, lower your cholesterol, stress management and exercise.
The U.S. Surgeon General has said, "Smoking cessation represents the single most important step that smokers can take to enhance the length and quality of their lives." Smoking is known to cause cancer, heart disease and damage to your lungs, as well as other health-related conditions. It doesn't matter how long or how much you've smoked, quitting will definitely show an improvement in your health.
Exercise every day. This may take some time for your body to adjust to, but it is well worth your while in the end. Start out slowly. You will find that as your body adjusts, you will be able to exercise for longer periods of time. Along with exercise, eliminate foods that rob your body of energy such as caffeine, sugar and energy drinks.
A small change in dietary habits can be quite beneficial in lowering your cholesterol. These include oatmeal and oat bran, nuts, fatty fish (two servings a week, two tablespoons of olive oil a day), and foods fortified with sterols or stanols. Consider cutting back on the types and amounts of fats you eat, such as saturated and trans fats.
Stress is one of the major causes of ill health today. There are two types of stress, internal and external. Decreasing stress in your life will require lifestyle changes. The following are suggested to reduce stress. Decrease caffeine, exercise, relax/meditate, sleep well, make time for leisure activities and examine your own expectations. Follow these simple suggestions and you will be amazed at how much healthier you are.
